WHAT MY MIND HAS BEEN FILLED WITH
On Saturday Tony and I got a wonderful delivery, our 52inch Samsung Touch of Color Series 7 arrived! Tony was at work and when I saw the TV being carted off the truck I gasped because it was really big. When they set it up on our entertainment center I was still amazed at how big it was. It fits and everything but MAN is that thing big. After I finally got the closed captions to turn off (thanks Dad) I settled down to a weekend of television glory. The picture is amazing, so amazing that we watched golf simply because it was beautiful. Video games are unreal on this thing. I pulled out Uncharted: Drakes Fortune because the graphics were amazing on our old TV (which is still a perfectly fine piece of machinery) to see what it would look like and I was amazed. It’s so real. The only thing is we can’t figure out how to make the 120 Hz stay on. I think it might only kick in for certain things because the TV says it is on but then the info still says 60 Hz. Oh well, I’ll figure it out. Don’t even get me started on the blu-ray stuffs. Man I love my TV.
I guess the fact that an incredibly over stimulating time consisted of a play and a television delivery should maybe make me reconsider my measurement of over stimulating. At least the next few days will be busy.
Tomorrow night I will be going to see Jamie Lidell, again with Jamie and Monica. It will be different from the last show we saw him do because he will have a band. I am very interested to see how it will work. Here’s a glimpse of the last show.
Thursday is my birthday and that is probably the least eventful thing that is going on. I just don’t care about 29. I’ll care next year. On Friday Chanda is having a murder mystery party and I am pretty excited about it. Tony’s mom might be coming into town for Blues Fest this weekend and Mom is going to be coming in for a conference next Tuesday. The stimulation just won’t stop.

THE MAGIC OF BEING PREPARED AND THE WONDERS OF MONOPOLY
Not so with the sleepover. When sleeping over you go prepared. You have pillows, sheets, toothbrushes, and even pajamas. The foresight that goes along with a planned sleepover makes it much more comfortable than the unexpected crash. Monica is awesome enough to have a humongous air mattress that Lakeiya and I were easily able to sleep on. Q could have fit too but she was too close, sober, and awake to sleepover. That is perfectly acceptable, we are grown-ups after all. The air mattress also served as a great place for the four of us to huddle together, try and creep each other out with odd caresses, and watch scary movies. We even ordered pizzas! What good times.
The foresight also allowed me to spend the next day at Monica’s house without feeling like there was death in my mouth. I love brushing. If it wasn’t for the toothbrush I wouldn’t have been able to play endless games of Monopoly and wouldn’t have been able to stay long enough for Morgan to come by and enjoy said Monopoly with us and then, eventually drive me home. Without the toothbrush, my trip home would have been long, dirty, and hot. What wonders a clean mouth can do.
Monica had a brand new Monopoly board. I typically don’t enjoy brand new Monopoly unless it is of some fun variety such as Star Wars, Simpsons, or Looney Tunes. I recall there is a Muppet Monopoly out there somewhere. I wouldn’t object to having it. This new Monopoly of Monica’s, however, had something rather exciting in it, thus making the game exciting despite the money being stuck together. It was a special blue “speed die”. I play Monopoly in a rather speedy fashion as it is so the speed die didn’t immediately intrigue me. Monica and I played a good old regular game and, when Lakeiya showed up, we decided to put the speed die into use.
After your first trip around the board you can use the speed die. You roll it along with the two regular dice and fun ensues. The speed die has the numbers 1-3, a bus, and two “Mr. Monopolies adorning its six sides. If you roll a number you add it to the value of the other two dice making a larger roll. If you roll the bus you can take the singular value of either of the normal dice or their combined total. Then you get to Mr. Monopoly, more affectionately known as “The Man”. The Man can be your friend, or he can be your worst enemy. If you roll The Man, you take your turn based on the roll of the white dice and then move to the next unowned property, which you can buy or not. If you are playing with the actual rules the property then gets auctioned off to the highest bidder but who plays that way? Once all the properties are owned, The Man becomes evil. You now must move to the next property on which you will owe someone money. So if you landed on a hotel on Park Place and had The Man show up you would then have to go to Boardwalk and pay on the hotel that would also be sitting there. Oh, the ins and outs of The Man.
It was nice to be in a place where I could play at least ten games of Monopoly in a two day time span. Playing games is probably the thing I most miss about living with Monica, that one is good for games. I don’t think Monica, Brooke, and I have ever played a game of Monopoly together. That has to happen sometime soon. No one loves that game as much as the three of us do. Ladies, let’s make a date.
The unguessed songs from last week are as follows:
1. What if the show didn’t go on/ What if we all got jobs and got to bed before dawn/ What if Old Joe had to retire/ What if all the stagehands were let go or fired. Promises of Eternity, Magnetic Fields.
2. You’ve taken the fun/ Out of everything/ Making me run/ When I don’t want to think. I think this is called No Other Way and it is certainly by Blur
3. Every night/ Out for love/ Get my strength from the man above/ God of pistol/ God of steel/ God is here behind my wheel. Working For The Man, PJ Harvey
4. I said oh/ I got this feeling and it's deep in my body/ it gives me wiggles and it makes my rump shake/ I said oh. Speaking in Tongues, Eagles of Death Metal
5. I can’t believe that I’m writing this down and/ I can’t believe I’ve got you in a song/ I don’t want to be a whining girl/ Rather not be in your world. I Don’t Want to See You, Camera Obscura.

IN WHICH MONICA ASKS ME QUESTIONS
1. What is the best thing about you? Would others agree?
The best thing about me? That is not an easy question at all. I would have to say that it is that I can be an incredibly good friend and really try to make my friends as happy as I can. Of course I have had arguments with friends before, that is part of friendship, but even when I am upset with someone I think that I still love them and want the best for them. i help them out when I can in whatever ways they need and truly enjoy doing it. Would others agree? I would like to think that they would. Since I tend to keep truly good friends for a while I would assume that they do.
2. If you could be great at one instrument, what would it be?
I would love to be great at the kalimba. The first time that I remember seeing one was at my Uncle Jimmy’s and he played it. Uncle Jimmy was always the epitome of cool and I thought that it was an incredibly cool instrument. It would also be something highly unusual to be truly awesome at. I would enjoy that. I bet you could use a kalimba player in your fake ass band. Ok that was mean, sorry. I know you guys are real.
3. If you had to pick between saving Cho Cho or your mix tapes from a fire, what would the choice be?
That is an easy choice. I would quickly forget all about how much I loved mix tapes in a fire. The first things I would grab would be Cho Cho, my college photo album, and my diaries. The mix tapes would be way down on the list.
4. What do you get out of making a blog?
I get a lot out of making a blog. Sometimes I get headaches from thinking about things to write and that reminds me of a time when I actually had to think produce things. I like that feeling and had missed it. I also really enjoy the greater blog community. I enjoy the voyeuristic aspect of peeking in on peoples lives. I have always been fascinated by people and what makes them work and blogs are a great way to enjoy that fascination without being totally intrusive and creepy. With a blog people put themselves out there and you don’t have to pull information from them. I also enjoy writing. Blogging gives me an excise to write about nothing and everything and I get some sort of validation from having people comment on and seem to enjoy the random things that are in my brain. Initially, I thought it would be a good way to waste time. It has become more than that.
5. What movie or book is the most like your life? Why?
I have been thinking of an answer to this question for a long long time (well the three hours since i read it). The most valid answer would be Bonnie’s Book of Beliefs (once it’s finished) because it is loosely based on my life. However, that is a total copout of an answer. To be absolutely accurate I would have to say Naive Super by Erlend Loe. One of the things that really struck me was the main character’s obsession with time and if it really matters or not. I have a strong obsession with, as well as an aversion to, the concept of time. Our main character couldn’t find any meaning in his life and was desperate for direction. Although I can find meaning here and there in my life, anyone reading this blog will see that I too am desperate for direction. He finds solace in childish games like the hammer and pegs and a rubber ball, I find solace in children’s books. I flipped through the book to see if I could find something that really explained how it summed me up; luckily I had taken a pen to it so that made finding good stuff easier. I found this, “And while dawn breaks, I sit there thinking that I’m a really good guy and never mind space and time and all the rest of it.” The thing is, he can’t help but mind space and time and all the rest of it. Neither can I.
The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam’s Dice, Jimi Hendrix- I love how Jimi Hendirx has all this music that comes out periodically. He is like 2 Pac. He wrote this song a long time ago. It was released a fairly decent time ago as well but some people will get the joke.
Master of Puppets, Metallica- UUHHHH UUHHHH this didn’t just happen. Please strike this from your memory
The Gambler, Kenny Rogers- The Muppet Show with Kenny Rogers as the guest contains a skit to the music of this song. It is relatively terrifying. There is an eerily human Muppet as the Gambler and he of course dies and then gets all ghostly and sings songs. Creepy.

GAME OF THE YEAR
Heroes don’t have to worry about paying their bills, getting up in the morning, or finding the perfect job. Who cares about paying bills if the world is going to end? If you keep that from happening no one will ever ask you to pay a bill again? Do heroes even sleep? It seems like they just keep going and going, driven by the import of the task at hand. They already have perfect jobs, and have no choice in the matter, they are of vital import and they are given the means to succeed, unless they are a SIM and that is not the kind of video game character I want to be.
I want to run up walls like the Prince of Persia. I want to roll the world into a big ball for the glory of our sky a la Katamari. I want to overthrow an evil genie like Toan and travel back and forth in time like Max and Monica in the Dark Cloud series. I want to paint through life and slay demons like in Okami, I want to become a godless killing machine hell-bent on revenge to squash my inner demons like Cretos in God of War (well maybe not. He was a bad bad man in a good good game). I want to save the world from turning into robots with my little robot friend like Ratchet. I just want to do something special and I don’t want to think about it.
I think the hardest thing about life is figuring out what you want to do with yours. My only regret in not going to Medical School is that it would have been the easiest and most practical thing to do. It took me a long time to admit that. I have always said that I have no regrets about not going. I had to be honest with myself. I don’t regret the things I didn’t learn. I don’t regret not being a Dr. because I don’t think it is really what I am supposed to do with myself. I only regret the planned life that I would have led. Granted, I wouldn’t have the same friends I have now. I wouldn’t live in the same city I live in now. I would be a completely different person. I don’t want that. I just want someone to give me a plan.
I have always resisted setting goals for myself. Since grade school when I was first confronted with the idea of a goal I resisted with everything I had. I never saw the point. I always thought they left too much room for disappointment. Time tables are also like kryptonite to me. Anyone who knows me knows how often I have said “I don’t operate under the constraints of time,” and I have always meant it. I am more comfortable with the notion that things will just happen and come along. I agree with that mentality still, but I know that I need to provide some kind of catalyst for a major change. No evil lord is going to show up and force me to take action or the world as I know it will perish (and the current administration doesn’t count). It’s just not going to happen. I have to do this myself.
The fact that making decisions is the absolute hardest thing for me to do in the whole world doesn’t help. That is another reason I would prefer to be in a video game. You have seriously limited options in those worlds. You can run, jump, kick, punch, use weapons, and do various combo moves. That tends to be about it. The puzzles you go through are all relatively common sense, although you may have to find a hidden switch or two. If you get really stuck you can always look on the internet. That doesn’t work for real life.
I have to talk to people. I have to evaluate myself. I have to grow a freaking backbone. While I am fairly good at planning finances and small events, I suck at planning my life. I suck at making any choices that aren’t obvious. I suck at making myself the happiest person that I can be. I don’t suck at keeping myself comfortable. I’m really good at that. The thing about comfortable is that it is never more and never less. I want something bigger, something epic, and something memorable. Maybe I need to set some goals and make a timeline. That will never get done. It sounds horrible. Those asshole types say things like you never reach your goals if you don’t set them. They are right but they sound like assholes.
Fuck it. I’m programming myself into some fantastic caper and you can all take a turn at the sticks. It will be called Natalie vs. the Mad Muppeteer and I’ll have to stop some poser Jim Henson from creating horrid want to be new Muppet Movies. I’m not talking about Brian though, Muppets in Space was ok.
Icicle, Tori Amos- A song all about introspection and not quite fitting in. That works for today. It would make very bad video game music though. Well, the first part may be a great dream sequence where the mind was being taken over my some evil Muppet.
Funky Child, James Brown- This is a much better song for a video game. IT would be Muppets doing capoiera in a choreographed pattern that kicked my ass until I imported Eddie from the world of Tekken and kicked their asses on a whole different level.
Open Your Heart To Me, Madonna- This automatically reminds me of the Courtney Gears fight in Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. She was a pretty badass evil lady.

BEST AND WORST DRESSED OSCARS 2007
3. Jessica Biel This girl found her Oscar dress at the half priced prom dress sale at Fashion Bug. It is utterly boring and does nothing for her. Hot pink and black send me back to 1984. Then again I guess the 80s are supposed to be back in or something, but it makes me want to die. To make things even worse, she had the nerve to match her lipstick to her dress UGH. At least she has a prettyish face.
4. Cameron Diaz

I hate everything about this outfit. However, I hated it less as the night wore on which is why she is only the fourth worst dressed person on the red carpet. I hate her tan, I hate her hair, I hate her stupid cardboard-looking-stiffass- wish-I-were-a-mermaid dress. The only good thing is that the dress actually moved ok and, therefore, looked better as she was walking on stage. Unfortunately, it was still awful and ugly. It also bunched in an unflattering way around her mid-section and made her shoulders look rather broad.

I hate Gwyneth Paltrow (but I liked sliding Doors). This woman gets on my nerves to no end. She is boring and icky and, as Monica mentioned, her hair was a little static-filled. Many people didn't like this dress but I just loved it. Maybe because I am all about art deco style. The lines just delighted my eyes and the peep front was another geometric focal point. I love shapes. It has a bit of a mermaid feel to it but, I think, in a good way. This is not a good picture of the dress though; I wish I could have found a better one. Oh well.
42nd Street, Original Broadway Cast- That is a really funny thing to come on after doing a post about the Oscars. I haven’t ever seen this musical but I am sure it is filled with great costumes. I am a little embarrassed that I listen to this song on occasion.
Mass Appeal, GangStarr- I am redeemed. This song has a great beat. Real basic but, like they say “we don’t make whack tracks”. This reminds me of how much better real rap is that the mess they put on that white Rapper show that I had the nerve to watch yesterday. I know some people watched it all season though, so I don’t feel too bad.
You Didn’t Hear It, The Who- Tommy is one of my favorite albums ever. I love it so so much and this song is easily one of my favorites. What a way to start a story. I really hated the movie though.

THE GIRLS WERE BACK IN TOWN
A fun weekend was had by all. I'll just give a few highlights and try not to be too wordy. One thing is certain; I do think that friends are very nice to have around. Although Friend is gone, Monica is in town for the next 3 months. This means that I will have someone to watch Project Runway with that actually cares. Well, Tony might kind of care but he would never admit to that. Since I already wrote about Friday I'll start with Saturday.
After much sleeping and other silliness, I was able meet Monica at the airport. We then went to a BBQ with her father's friends. With the exception of someone's niece, we were the youngest people there by a good 35 years. One person asked us why all the women were together and not talking to the men. Easy answer is that it is more of an age thing than a sex thing. We were able to get out of that because we had to attend a "play" about prostate cancer that Monica's brother was in at 6:30. It was really a 15-minute skit amid a dinner/awareness night about prostate cancer. Everyone was dressed up. Not black tie but dressed up. We were dressed like we dress. Fine, but not dressed up. So by 7:30 dinner has not been served nor has the 15 min skit started. We ended up getting goodie bags. I really liked these fold up pens. Chanda really liked the female condom and after we had run away from the event (fixing plates, eating, and sneaking out pre-skit) made Monica open it. Lube was everywhere. I was in the back seat so it wasn't as scary for me.
We are driven to the train and eventually make it to the B-Day party for Friend B and Friend J. Party is good. Fridge is filled with about 150 cans of Pabst. There were lots of people though so it's cool. It promises to be an event. Monica and I proceed to have personal karaoke with my iPod, complete with dancing moves in the lawn where the dog poops. We succeed in not stepping in poop. We do not succeed in not looking like assholes. Apparently there is a dark video of these dances. When it was suggested it went on Youtube I said please no while Monica said YES. I think this blog is embarrassing enough for me. I think that’s all that needs to be said about that party. I made it home about 3:30. Monica, Tony, and I then proceeded to watch Project Runway that she had missed. Sleep happened at about 5:45.
Sunday was going to be a day of watching Football on my couch and heading to a beach picnic. None of that happened. All parties involved slept in a lot. I was awake but not functional so I count that as asleep. We were functional about 3:45 so football was missed. Lots of walking took us to Dinner and to Dave's where the picnic was supposed to hail from but since we had eaten and it was rainy that was also not to be had. Friends left, I hung w/Dave to wind down and was home by 9. I slept.
Today, I am awake and at work. It is not the best idea. Luckily it is move offices day, which does not take all that much brain power. I was half asleep all morning. I am ok now.
Roxanne sent me a Blogthings quiz about what Muppet you are. I was very pleasantly rewarded with this
| You Are Rowlf the Dog |
![]() Mellow and serious, you enjoy time alone cultivating your talents. You're a cool dog, and you always present a relaxed vibe. A talented pianist, you can play almost anything - especially songs by Beethoven. "My bark is worse than my bite, and my piano playing beats 'em both." |
It had been said many times before but computer has now proved it. So there Monica.
My mom mentioned that I had stopped doing the shuffle game and she liked it. I liked it too. I think that I will finish out this week with the guessing game and then alternate weeks between the two. That also means that at the end of the week I ca identify all previously unidentifiable songs and you can all hit your heads and go "I should have known that," or not. This is the plan until I find a new fun thing to do and then I will have even more alternating. Hooray
1. A flask I drink of sober tea while relay cameras monitor me.
2. Standing like John Wayne she is full frame she is center stage.
3. Your Flesh Finds Me Out. Teases the crack in me. Smittens me with hope.
4. Here I stand head in hand turn my face to the wall. If she's gone I can't go on feeling two foot small. Hide Your Love Away, The Beatles. Identified by Lizza
5. Maybe the world is blind. Or just a little unkind, don't know.

WHAT DO YOU WATCH?
They introduce the Queen, who happens to be Pearl Bailey, and she bursts on to the scene with Hello Dolly. Next the jousters are introduced and bring in their horses with a wonderful rendition of Paul Revere from “Guys and Dolls”. The jousters (Floyd and Gonzo) then broke into Anything You Can do I Can Do Better. I don’t know what musical that is from but I know the song and I am curious. Does anyone know? Then Piggy jumped in with A Boy Like That from West Side Story (oh yeah that is one of my favorites too) and they closed it all out with Everything’s Coming up Roses and I also don’t know what that is from. So I guess what I am trying to say is I am not as well versed in musicals as I thought and I am upset about that.
I am, however, well versed in Muppets. I don’t know if anyone else loves those little guys as much as I do. I have a constant internal debate about “The Muppet Movie” vs. “The Great Muppet Caper” and which is the top Muppet film in my eyes. While “The Muppet Movie” is a definite classic and The Rainbow Connection is a song for the ages, something about a human man being madly in love with Miss. Piggy is an absolute gem. Also Bouregard has a fantastic part in “The Great Muppet Caper” and he is my favorite unsung Muppet. Of the main characters I have to give it up for Fozzie Bear. He is adorable and hilarious. People used to tell me that if I were a Muppet I would be Rolph but then they met Monica and she looks more like a Rolph than I. Now I don’t know what Muppet I would be. Sad.
This is probably one of the most pointless posts I have ever had. I really anted to talk about the wonders and glory of the Musical but I was totally sidetracked by fluffy creatures that dance really funny. Oh well. I still had fun writing it. I guess the point is to tell me what I should watch.
I may be absent the next few days. I am of work Thursday and Friday, which seems like it would be conducive to writing, but I have things to do. I have to finish a painting for Tony tomorrow and then Friday I am going to see Friend. Yeah for friend! Maybe I’ll get to it. Just don’t be mad at me if I don’t. If you care at all, which you probably don’t. Whatever.
Now, for the songs to guess. We need to add one new one to round it back out to five.
1. The boy done wrong again. Hang your head in shame and cry your life away. The Boy Done Wrong Again, Belle and Sebastian. Identified by Jaclyn
2. A flask I drink of sober tea while relay cameras monitor me.

4. Standing like John Wayne she is full frame she is center stage.
5. Your Flesh Finds Me Out. Teases the crack in me. Smittens me with hope.
